Bachelor dissertation: „Creation of water profiles of the South African Olifants river using photogrammetric 3D-shapings and ADCP – technology (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler-technology)
Since May 2017 DIE GEWÄSSER-EXPERTEN! are supporting South Africa to secure a sustainable and environmentally friendly water governance support system which is based on the BMBF-research project iWaGSS (integrated Water Governance Support System)
Our trainee, Marvin Strack, uses the drone images of our last field trip to South Africa in May 2018 as well as the ADCP data collected by the CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research) as a base for his Bachelor thesis.
Mr. Stracks aim is to generate profiles of the river bed and its wetlands with the combined data of the drone images and the ADCP data.
U+Ö (Umwelttechnik und Ökologie im Bauwesen = Institute for Environmental Engineering and Ecology) will then use the profiles drawn to calibrate their hydrological model with existing data. The 1D Hydrodynamic Model provides important information on the hydrological processes in the lower Olifants river basin, which might help in creating a sustainable governance system of the water resources within the basin.
The Bachelor thesis is supervised by the Geographic Institute of the University of Bonn and DIE GEWÄSSER-EXPERTEN!
